Jeong Ju-Hee

Abstract
Objective : This study was to identify the effect of occupation-based intervention on occupational participation and client's perception in patient with stroke

Method : A-52-yr-old woman with chronic stroke participated a treatment session once a week for 8 months in a hospital setting designed to simulate a home environment. We tested physical function(Manual Function Test, Grip Strength Test, BBS, MAL), community integration(K-CIQ) and MOHOST at baseline and at completion of intervention. We collected descriptive data on occupational participation after postintervention. The data analysis compared the physical functions and community integration and analyzed the factors of occupational participation affecting community integration.

Results : There has been little change in grip strength, grasp, manipulation and balance but it has shown improvements in the use and capacity of paralyzed arms in daily life and in community integration at postintervention. Changes in community integration was correlated with the motivation for occupation, occupational patterns, motor skills and the environment among the MOHOST subitem for occupation participation

Conclusion : In a hospital-based simulated homelike environment, occupation-based intervention demonstrated positive changes in the increased functional use of the affected UE, improved community integration, and increased community integration was highly associated with motivation and motor skills factors for occupational participation.
